Parenting & Parent-Child Relationship Support
Parenting is perhaps the most rewarding but demanding role you will ever undertake. When the daily rhythms of family life become a source of stress, frustration, or disconnect, it is often helpful to have a clinical space to explore the dynamics at play.
My approach to parenting education and parent-child relationship support is a judgment-free space designed to help you navigate these challenges within your own values, strengths, and limitations while protecting your own well-being, your child's emotional growth, and strengthening your connection. This service can be tailored as Individual Therapeutic Support or Family Therapy to include one or both parents and/or children to meet your family's specific challenges, goals, and needs.
A Clinical but Compassionate Approach
Rooted in my extensive graduate research and self-directed study—including positive, compassionate parenting strategies a dedicated focus on Parent-Child Interaction Therapy (PCIT) frameworks—this service is offered as a specialized form of individual or family therapy. I believe that connection is the foundation of all healthy development. By focusing on positive, attachment-based strategies, we help your child feel safe and seen.
However, while I largely provide psychoeducation on the research, "why", and "how" of compassionate positively focused parenting, I recognize that parenting is not a "one-size-fits-all" endeavor.
We will work together to build a framework that acknowledges two key clinical truths:
1- Every Child is Unique: What works for one child may not work for another. While we will discuss largely accepted, evidence-based practices, rather than emphasizing rigid, prescriptive methods, we will focus on what is developmentally and temperamentally appropriate for your specific child.
2-Parental Capacity Matters: You cannot pour from an empty cup. I prioritize your emotional capacity, acknowledging that overwhelm and exhaustion are real clinical factors. We will work within the limits of your current bandwidth to ensure the strategies we choose are sustainable and supportive for not only your child, but your mental health.
*Please note that while I heavily utilize educational background and interventions from both positive parenting and PCIT frameworks I am not officially Board Certified in these modalities. If you are seeking a certified PCIT therapist, please see the PCIT provider database atProviders | IoWA-PCIT - The University of Iowa.
What We Will Explore
